Product Description

A Brief History of the Brunswick Area. by Bernard Stanley. 134 pages.

Brunswick was named after the Brunswick River which was documented by John Septimus Roe in 1830 and first appeared on a map published in London in 1839. It was named in honour of the Duke of Brunswick (Frederick William) who was the Commanding Officer for Captain James Stirling while he was cruising in the area of the coast of New Holland aboard the ‘Brazen’, a 28 gun sloop. Captain Stilring had already named the area around Bunbury and Harvey as the Wellington District in one of his expeditions of 1830.
